This Big Data Foundation verifies fundamental knowledge and competencies in the broader scope of big data analytics. It is a foundation level course designed to provide you with an understanding of Big Data, the potential sources of Big Data that can be used for solving real business problems, key concepts and approaches in, data analytics and data mining.
Practical introductory labs using Hadoop and MongoDB provide a gateway to the application of big data concepts. You will get the opportunity to practice installing two technologies through our Work-Labs. The course exposes you to real-life Big Data technologies with the purpose of obtaining results from real data sets from Twitter.
Big Data fundamentals
understand the history, development and importance of big data and the key stakeholders to engage at the organizational level.
Big Data sources
learn where to get data and how to manage various kinds of data ie. structured/unstructured and private vs. public data sources.
Data mining concepts and tools
develop techniques used to identify patterns in large data sets and tools (KNIME, Weka & R Language) used in data mining.
Get hands-on with Apache Hadoop
beyond an introduction, install and configure your own Hadoop environment, using YARN, HDFS & MapReduce to store and process data.
Data modeling with document databases
create a document database using MongoDB, a practical lab walks you through installation, configuration and provides a base understanding of data modeling.
